After the mobile processor giant, Qualcomm’s announcement of Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset aimed at gaming and virtual reality (VR), another major semiconductor company, MediaTek has stepped into the game (pun intended) by ‘hinting’ a new gaming-oriented processor named Helio G90. The would-be powerhouse chipset was revealed through a teaser poster which unfortunately did not disclose any more information. More detail is anticipated in the upcoming weeks.
Meanwhile, GSMArena has reported that “We can speculate that the G90 is based on the Helio P90, which has a CPU with two Cortex-A75 cores (2.2GHz) and six A55 cores (2.0GHz). As for the GPU, it’s an Imagination PowerVR GM9446 (970MHz), which promises a 15 percent improvement over the Mali-G72 MP3 used in the Helio P70.”
It remains to be seen how much performance boost can these Gaming focused chips can provide over regular flagship CPUs but rest assured, chip manufacturers like Qualcomm and MediaTek venturing into producing processors with mobile gaming in mind means we should brace ourselves for burgeoned quality and popularity of gaming on smartphones.
